Ski Day-Recap 1.4.25
Happy New Year all!
An excellent ski day, -4 , no wind, partially sunny sky greeted around 70 Silver Hares, yahoo best turnout so far this season. Pretty cool to see lots of new Silver Hares kits at our briefing . About half that number joined us for a tasty lunch at the Black Pine.
As we continue to develop the way we organize our skiing groups in this our second successful season, I hear back from different skiers and leaders alike.
When you have split into your groups and before leaving the village ask the leaders for that group who intends to ski at a recreational speed and who intends to ski at a faster speed. Should it turn out that the group is still faster than is enjoyable for you simply slow down and ski your own pace. There is no requirement to stay with a group that does not suit you
Gary and Nancy Goplen invite you to join them for a skate on Brewer’s Pond (Silver Star) on Friday, Jan 17th from 1:30pm-3:00 pm.
We will share a little bit about the sport of speed skating, a few basics skating drills and play some games. They will also demo the blades used for lake marathon skating that attach to our XC skate boots.
Everyone should bring their own sharp skates and helmets are recommended (bike, hockey or ski). Rentals are also available in the Blue Building.
Treats? Of course! There will be supplies to make S’mores around the campfire. Hot beverages and other snacks can be purchased in the Cafe. Skating passes are required unless you have a SilverStar “My One Pass” or Tube/Skating pass. Day tickets are $11.10 and only $9.20 if bought online (same day).
Please note that this event will be postponed to the following week if the temperatures exceed -15C or there is excessive snow.
We look forward to having you join us and please RSVP to nancygoplen@gmail.com so we can purchase adequate supplies.
A Correction for 25 for 25!!
I try really hard to be accurate with anything I say to you all but sometimes I get it wrong, sooooo
We have to subtract 25k from our total Ks skied on Jan. 1st. That’s the bad news. The good news Dennis and Lee M. each did 25k , Doug G.and Meridith H. each skied 23k and Chris H.17k so an additional net 88k this puts us at about 1200 Kilometers for the day!
Congrats to all who joined and we’ll see you next year for you guessed it….26K for 2026
Silver Hare's Toques and Headband order
Please fill out the google form if you are interested, we will offer blue headbands, blue toques and black toques. It would be helpful to know how many we should order. Final cost will be determined by the quantity we order but expect $30-$35, is my guess. If more than that will advise you soon as I know.
