Karen and I moved to the south Okanagan from Ontario in 2002. We initially skied at Nickel Plate Nordic. Our first exposure to Silver Star and Sovereign after a break from skiing was about 10 years ago when we came up with some friends that come here for alpine. We’ve been coming up for progressively longer stretches and now spend 11 to 12 weeks per winter at Silver Star. Summer sees us spending up to a couple of weeks here mountain biking.
Back in the 1980s and beyond, winters were all about skiing in as many loppets as we could squeeze in as well as completing world loppets in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Switzerland and Canada’s Rivière Rouge. Completing my bronze, silver and gold in the Canadian Ski Marathon was a major accomplishment and getting to shake hands with Jack Rabbit Johansen when finishing my gold was a thrill. Summers saw us canoeing many of the rivers and lakes that Ontario has to offer.
We now enjoy participating in Super Camps, S2S and of course Silver Hares.
Beyond skiing, we try to spend time doing trips in the far north and doing wildlife photography in wilderness locations.
Needless to say, Silver Star and Sovereign are a very important part of our lifestyle and we love the community we have found here.
