Rob starting coming to Silver Star in the late 80’s as a coach for the original Master Camps run by Norm Crerar and Marty Hall. Silver Star’s Nordic skiing matched with their alpine hill and its friendly atmosphere made it the logical place to come to when he and his wife Karen retired and decided to spend their winters skiing. They purchased their house on the Knol in 2019 and have enjoyed every ski season since their arrival.
During the summer they live at their lake house near Bancroft Ontario. Each fall they will take a month to travel with their travel trailer to Silver Star exploring various parts of Canada and the US. In the spring, after the ski season closes, they lay out a new route to explore as they travel back to Ontario.
Both Karen and Rob have greatly enjoyed the Silver Hares and the environment Silver Star has to offer...
I first came to the Okanagan in the summer of 2000 and immediately fell in love with the region. As an avid road cyclist, runner and paddler, the area was a summer playground, and all without the bugs I was used to in Ontario. Five years later I had my first taste of winter in the Okanagan, specifically at SilverStar/Sovereign Lake. While our 3 young children were learning to downhill ski, my husband and I cross country skied. Having skied up to this point in either freezing cold temperatures in Alberta, or on the icy/sticky snow of Ontario and Quebec I remember skiing around the trails here marvelling at the winter wonderland of ideal temperatures, beautiful snow and eternally frosted trees. I never wanted to leave. Now a BC resident with a new home on the Ridge I don’t have to. When I am not skiing I love to get involved in community events, volunteer, teach yoga/pilates and meditation classes and meet new people...

Len has participated in 13 World Masters Championships, numerous provincial and national masters races, and 10 World Loppets. As well as skiing, he has been a Divisional technical delegate in his home province of Ontario and officiated at regional, provincial, national and World Cup races, as well as the Vancouver Olympics. For more than 10 years, Len and Kit have provided financial assistance to Canadian World Cup and Olympian cross country skiers. They presently sponsor Katherine Stewart-Jones...
