Ski Day-Recap 12.21.24

Season’s Greetings Everyone!

From the group picture looks like at least 40 hares if my eyeball count is accurate. There were 33 at our Black Pine lunch gathering where some of us spent as much or more time socializing at than our 2 hour ski!

There was a special ski yesterday that was waaay cool

Silver Hares Irina G. and Bruce S. have been celebrating the winter solstice with outdoor pursuits for the last 4 years. This year their adventure started at sunrise Sat 21 at 7:53am by snowshoeing the lower SS trails, followed by skiing with the Hares out to Alder Point and then downhill skied until sunset at 3:56. What a wonderful way to celebrate the year past and welcome the new year about to begin.

One last little thing, somebody asked me why I use so many emojis in the emails? Very simple answer, emails are read by the recipient in the tone of the recipient. That person may misinterpret the meaning sometimes, I know I have. By using emoji’s I try leave no doubt as to meaning and intent of the message

25 for 25!!

Our first extracurricular activity is coming up in about 2 weeks , Euna Kang Silver Hares leader and founder of this cool event will explain a bit in her description below, here’s Euna:

I would like to welcome 2025 by skiing 25km on January 1st, 2025. The tradition of skiing on January 1st, the distance of the year, started in 2020 in Edmonton by myself and few friends. It was a fun way to remind myself in the fall that winter is coming and get myself in shape! Since 2023, in the lovely community of Silverstar/Soverign Lake, it was even more challenging and fun!

2025 will be our third year of this tradition in Silverstar. This year, we would like to add (with a help of Pat and Trevor) two more optional routes. Detail routes will be explored in coming weeks before January 1st. Here’s what we have come up with:

Start: SilverStar in front of Bugaboo cafe 10:00 am
Finish and lunch with cookie medal: Blackpine 1pm-3pmish
Routes
Route1: Ski up Paradise Ski up trails and down back to Silverstar lower trails
Route2: Gondola up and ski to Sovereign Lake and coming back to Silverstar via Gold Mountain
Route3: Same as last year with additional 1k (Gondola up and ski to Alderpoint and down to lower trail)

Routes can be modified according to the trail conditions of the day.
Last year’s route:

Make Sure to Scan Your Pass

Prior to our ski start Norman Kreutz, SilverStar Snowsports technical director and Silver Hares friend, shared a couple thoughts with the group. Who knew $285 per hour to groom our trails not counting half million $ or so for a new snowcat. Anyways we had our trail passes scanned and as expected we were 100% good
