Ski Day-Recap 3.1.25
Greetings!
well ski session #14 is in behind us on the trail with 3 Saturdays to go. On a spectacularly beautiful day there were more than 60 Silver Hares on skis and more than 40 at our lunch social.

Skiing, eating, drinking, 25k for 2025, ice skating, dancing, musical bingo playing, wine tasting, chocolate making, new friends, fitness, health, supporting community, this is what we do. Plus of course, very very important….sporting the best looking jackets and toques on the Mtn. Look good, feel good, play good, we are the cool kids

Smiling Silver Hares

Your volunteer leaders

Speaking of our volunteer leaders (there are 40 of them you know), almost every week there seems a story reflecting their commitment to the Silver Hares and only I know what they sometimes do to come ski with you all. From forgetting boots ( Alex ) and driving back home then turn around and still make it in time, car problems to road problems to parking issues to not feeling well, work stuff, family emergencies etc. etc. Same stuff you all deal with right? They seem to always be able to cover for each other so that our sessions are well volunteer leader supported.
Well yesterday there was one of those instances I’ll share with you. Pilot Mike purchased a brand new pair of Carbon poles just before our session. Within 50 meters of exiting the gondola you can guess what happened, a small mishap and “crack ” broken pole . So Mike turns around to take the gondola back down and I’m thinking we lost a leader for the session. Our skate group now proceeds on a route that eventually takes us down Moose Alley and, wait for it… at the intersection of Moose Alley and Alder Point Loop there is Mike with another set of poles. Wow he must have really hustled to go back to the village, find another set of poles, back up the Mtn and correctly guess where he might find the group and be waiting to rejoin and help lead. Kudos to you Mike.!

Silver Hares Wine Dinner: A Toast to a Hopping Good Time!
Holy smokes, the Black Pine outdid themselves for us, superb food, excellent wine ( I’m told since I do not drink ) and great service. The wines were presented by Michel Auclair, our Silver Hare sommelier for the evening. Michel was a big hit, his creative jokes relating wine to xc skiing provided lots of amusement. From all the feedback from the 44 people joining us the evening was well worth attending. Everyone was more than pleased and looking forward for a repeat next season.

XC community loses a giant

A resident of the US he loved Canada and contributed to both nations xc skiing communities for decades having impact that is felt today and will far into the future.
