Ski Day-Recap 3.9.24
Our 13th Saturday session is in the books There were a solid 60 Silver Hares on the trail and over 30 at our Après Ski.
Unbelievable how fast this season has gone, time flies when you are having fun eh We do have 3 more Saturdays and 3 more Wednesday sessions to the good yet so it ain’t over for the season yet.
Remarkable that there has only been one day this season that we could not xc ski, that due to very unusual freezing rain.
New Trails for Silver Hares
Really great to see that lots of the Hares are trying new trails. Leaders are doing a great job mixing things up route wise.
I have heard more than once that Hares are skiing trails that they would not have on their own before now. Please remember if skiing on both sides of the mountain have both your SilverStar and Sovereign trail passes, preferably visible.
Volunteer Appreciation
One of the purposes of our gathering on the 27th is to show the Silver Hares leaders appreciation for their time and skills to make the Hares into the success that it has become. Silver Hare Beth MacDonald has volunteered to organize the Hares in a leader appreciation effort on the 27th If you are interested please contact Beth at: bmacdonald00@gmail.com
However, there are many of you unable to attend on the 27th so for those Hares I have a small and simple request. If you are willing please send me a testimonial about your experience skiing with the Silver Hares this season. Please include the names of the leaders. These notes from you I will pass forward to this exceptional group. Many of you skied with different leaders during the season and might not remember all the names, to see who the leader group is click on Meet the Silver Hares Leaders – Silver Hares Nordic
Wrap-Up Social
The Silver Hares Windup gathering on the 27th is gaining a little momentum, I think we might be approaching around 40 reservations at this time. Would love to see as many of the Silver Hares join as possible.
Making reservations has been a bit tough for some through the computer, if that the case just call the Black Pine and ask for Kat the Boss lady. She is there most days from noon on and she can help. Make your reservation under the name “Silver Hares”. We will all be seated together in the same area of the restaurant: .Black Pine Restaurant | TouchBistro Dine Restaurant Reservations (tbdine.com)
Retro Fun Ski
Ok last thing, retro ski or costume ski Lets have get a little crazy on our last session Saturday the 30th.
Some of us will be using old skis and wear old ski clothes, many of you do not have access to such I know. Sooo then I thought heck why don’t we just make it a fun costume dress up/down session for everybody that feels like joining in.
The Mountain will be having a retro day that same day so we can all join in the fun. It would be awesome especially if we could get a huge turnout of Silver Hares for this last session.
Our biggest turnout this season was about 80-90 skiers how cool if we could at least match if not exceed that.
An old saying, ” if it isn’t documented it didn’t happen “, so what a chance to get some great pictures that day. Just have your cameras on “High Resolution”, or we wont be able to use the pics as they will be too fuzzy after copying multiple times.
Sovereign to SilverStar- S2S
The S2S has become the 3rd largest XC Loppet in Canada. This accomplishment thanks to the volunteers stepping up to host this event and represent our thriving XC community. Sooo a huge THANK YOU to all of those Silver Hares volunteering again this year to allow us to put on another S2S in 2024. Remember, volunteers skiing in the S2S receive a volunteer reg. discount, contact me personally to receive this code.
Now the ask which you knew was coming, WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS
If you have interest to join, you can contact Pat personally as Chief of S2S Vollie’s or contact Cyndy who handles all the volunteer software to enter you into the schedule or simply go directly to the link and enter yourself Sovereign2SilverStar – Volunteer. Volunteer shifts are generally anywhere from 2 – 6 hours, you will receive some swag, a Toque as well as food and then there is the Volunteer Social on Sunday afternoon in the Chilcoot with more food and fun!
Next Ski: Wednesday March 13th
Our next session is this coming Wednesday the 13th and Saturday March 16. We meet as usual 10am next to Red Antler.
There may be fewer leaders on Wednesday so some groups may be self led.
I will again be there to help organize and ski with you. See you soon!
