Recap of 2.3.24
We had a bit smaller turnout , suspect due to anticipated icy trails, ( typical spring freeze / thaw conditions) still well over 40 skiers. By the way it is snowing on the Mtn as I type this
There were also almost 40 Hares at our Après ski for a very pleasant social gathering and some delicious drink and food. My chili was one of the best ever.
Most Hares avoided taking the gondola up since reports from the field was that coming down the S turns or down to Lars Taylor was very sketchy and they were just hanging on due to the ice. There were a couple of our groups that skied up as far as Howie’s loop, Chaptix cabin and those trail conditions were good. Most of us decided to enjoy the lower trails, classic tracks a bit shallow in places, skate tracks were good .
Inviting Friends
We welcome you inviting friends to ski with us, we’re happy to include them as they meet our 3 requirements:
- Have a valid ski pass/day pass
- Have a signed a waiver
- Be able to ski the Meadow/ Bridle trail loop comfortably and in a reasonable time.
There has been a recurring logistical bottleneck developing with the waiver requirement over the last couple of weeks. New participants can fill out a waiver before the session start between 9:15- 9:45 at Bugaboos or do it electronically. take care of this electronically. If you invite friends to ski with us and they need to fill out the waiver before our session please ask them do have this taken care of by 9:45.
Wednesday Ski Days
We will begin February 14th, 10am meet next to Red Antler. I will be there and help get things started and likely ski as well. There were 18 Hares that answered “yes” to the question about adding an extra day and 35 said ” sometimes”.
This will be an opportunity to further realize our primary reason for being, that is to “Connect the XC Community”. The reason I say this is that there will likely not be regular leaders expected and so you will have to get to know each other and organize yourselves.
The 3 Silver Hares requirements are still expected to be honored as long as it’s are a Silver Hares activity.
- Have a valid ski pass/day pass
- Have a signed a waiver
- Be able to ski the Meadow/ Bridle trail loop comfortably and in a reasonable time.
Waivers are to protect us all.
Chocolate Making
We have one spot left to fill between the 2 classes. Sooo the google survey is still open for you to claim that spot. I will close the form midweek and contact everyone signed up to share any details and confirm attending. We will start a wait list once we go over 20 (10 per class). It is very likely that someone might not be able to make the offered dates or just stuff comes up sometimes.
The dates are:
- Friday February 16th from 6pm-7pm for the first class
- Friday February 23rd for the second class.
Both to be held at Bugaboos.
Ingredients and induction plates are included in the $35 fee. You will have to bring your own small pots (if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot it will work). Additionally bring a small bowl to fit in and over your small pot which will sit over the steaming water in the pot in which bowl you will melt your chocolate ingredients phewwww!

Kudos for SilverStar
People often take the time to complain but not as often to give a compliment (you all have been an exception), just human nature I guess.
Well we have a really good chance to deliver a well-deserved thank you to SilverStar. You can download “Nordic Pulse ” an app based XC ski trail grooming report system in real time. This is a huge benefit for us to help us plan our xc ski for any day.
Soooo I would like to send a compliment and “thank you” on behalf the Silver Hares to the SilverStar management team from us. To give that message some weight it would be great if you allowed me to use your names (first name last initial) in signing on the bottom of that message. If you do not want me to list your name please let me know.
