I started cross-country skiing in Elliot Lake, Ontario in the forest in my 30’s. I skied in 3 Canadian Ski
Marathons in knickers and on wooden skis. Moving to Sudbury in 1979 I took up competitive running
with a club and coach. Skiing was winter training for running. My running coach created a Nordic club
for me and bought me a racing suit so I could compete.

The Canadian Cross Country Ski Masters and World Masters started in 1980. I attended my first
Canadian Masters in 1982 and raced in the next 20 in a row moving through the 5-year age groups
achieving success with training and a nordic coach. Over the decades since, I have attended several
World Masters Championships, loving it all and thrilled with several podium finishes.

I have taught, coached and competed for 40+ years. As a Canadian Master I was the Ontario Director for
a few years, meet director of several ski events and officiated at many events. I was awarded the Firth
Award in 1992 for contributions by a female to Canadian Cross Country skiing.

I have been a competitive runner, rower, orienteer, triathlete as well as a nordic skier. I am a retired RN
and mother of 2 grown up sons. My life took a different direction in 1999 and I moved to Vernon
knowing that the best nordic skiing in Canada and beyond was just up the mountain. Two total knee
replacements in the last 12 years have modified some of my activities but skiing remains doable and a
passion for me. The nordic paradise that is Sovereign and Silver Star makes life here pretty darn
wonderful.
